Our Gap Year

Hi there — you’ve found The Great Detour, where a mom and daughter are trading routine for road trips, wrong turns, new countries, and whatever surprises the universe tosses our way. After seventeen years in Hawai‘i and a season of big life shake‑ups, we decided to choose the scenic route, with slow travel, deep breaths, and a healthy amount of “well… let’s just see what happens.” Along the way, we’re collecting stories, snacks, questionable decisions, and all the quiet magic that shows up when you wander off the straight line. Built on curiosity, courage, and the belief that life’s best moments happen off the main road- this is our year of healing, learning, wandering, and saying yes to the unexpected — even when it makes zero sense on paper.
